DirecTV plans to release a TiVo powered DVR

DirecTV TiVo DVR

Some of you may remember the DirecTiVo that was introduced three years ago. It didn’t quite work out, and it left many DirecTV users quite disappointed.

It appears that an attempt at redemption is at hand as DirecTV plans to release a TiVo powered, high definition DVR. This DVR is able to receive (and presumably record) all of the DirecTV digital and high definition channels.

This is about all we know about this new device, accept that it will support the latest TiVo and DirecTV features and services, including TiVo’s Universal Swivel Search and TiVo KidZone. What we don’t know is whether the new DVR will use TivoToGo or Multi-Room viewing.

We also do not have a release date or price as yet, but we do know that it will be DirecTV that will be in charge of marketing and support for this. So if this is something you want, keep a watchful eye out for it.
